A Cedar Rapids woman drowned in Troy Mills while tubing on the Wapsipinicon River while tubing on Saturday, July 19th. Andrea Zimmermann, 29, was one of a group of four who went over the remains of a dam under the Troy Mills Bridge. The dam, a “roller dam”, apparently created a strong suction, which, combined with the swift current of the river, was strong enough to pull all four people under the water. The three survivors are Robert Olinger, 32, of Cedar Rapids; Zachary Kirton, 27, of Shellsburg, and Amanda Harper, 31, of Cedar Rapids. Ms. Zimmermann’s body was recovered later that day.
