Lisa Kuhn, 40, was riding her bicycle at around 9:30 a.m., June 25th, on Davis Avenue in West Liberty as part of a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer. Ryan McKillip, 28, was also traveling southbound on Davis Avenue and struck Kuhn. Kuhn was transported to University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics where she succumbed to her injuries. This accident is currently under investigation.
What I have seen in the past 35 years are bike riders and runners being hit in rural Iowa along highways although runners have an easier time on gravel than do bicyclists. Dawn or dusk is the time most happen although I have represented injured Iowans in rural counties in quite a few places. Farmers are older and their eyesight deteriorates along with their attention being directed to the corn and bean fields. It's difficult to tell exactly what happened in this collision, but if this were a fundraising ride you'd think the driver of the car or truck had plenty of notice of bike riders using the road. No two bike accidents are alike. The investigation tells at least a part of the story. Above I did add a video clip about how to preserve the claim of any person involved as the bike rider.
