Troopers: 2x4 slams through windshield on I-35

State troopers said a woman was very lucky to suffer only minor injuries when a piece of lumber crashed through her windshield Thursday afternoon. The incident happened at mile marker 89 on Interstate 35, near the Corporate Woods exit. Troopers said Nicole Schrauth was driving northbound when a piece of two-by-four lumber was kicked up by the tires of a truck in front of her, sending it flying through her windshield. The board narrowly missed Schrauth, but she was injured by some flying glass. Schrauth, a married mother of four, said she had glass all over her, including her eyes. However, she said she was able to steer the SUV over to the road's shoulder. Schrauth suffered minor cuts on her face and scalp. Schrauth was treated at the scene and released. Troopers said it is unlikely the driver who dropped the pieces of wood will be found. Those with information on the incident can contact the Iowa State Patrol. The driver would face a misdemeanor charge of failure to secure a load.
