Quick Answer: Great idea, questionable execution (due to negative reviews) and the jury is still out on whether it will last.

Cardpool is a website that buys and sells gift cards. You can buy cards for up to 35% off or you can sell gift cards for cash. Keep in mind you will be selling also at a discount. When someone gives you a gift card that you can’t or won’t use this is an alternative to letting it simply expire or allowing the value to set without being used.

My soon-to-be son-in-law uses it regularly for Home Depot purchases. His one reservation is that the seller of the card, (the previous gift card owner) has the numbers on the card and therefore, according to Nick, can use the card without your knowledge, thereby robbing you of the gift card value. I wondered if that were true so I went to Cardpool to see if there was any sort of a guarantee. There is and here is the guarantee.

Cardpool is committed to making our customers happy by offering the highest level of service possible. If you are not satisfied with your Cardpool purchase for any reason, you may return your unused gift card for a full refund*. If you purchase any gift card from Cardpool, we guarantee it will be valid at the merchant and to the dollar amount specified on your order. We make such guarantees for up to 100 days from the date of your purchase, up to a maximum of $1000 per customer.

You can even sell any gift card for an Amazon gift card.

You can find the reviews on Cardpool at Reviewopedia and also at Reseller Ratings. Like any web offering, do your own research before you dive in.

Reviewpedia has a general description which below I have quoted and some of the reseller rating comments are scathing. Others are glowing. Nick didn’t have anything bad to say about the service and seems quite happy with it.

Cardpool.com, established in 2009, allows people to buy or sell gift cards in one of the largest and fastest growing gift card exchanges on the internet today.

Unlike other gift card exchanges, Cardpool buys gift cards directly from you, which gives them the ability to verify the balance and authenticity of the card, and then holds it until someone wishes to purchase it from them.

They purchase gift cards at up to 92% of their value, and sellers will receive their payment within 24 hours of when Cardpool.com receives the gift card.

Those looking to buy cards from Cardpool.com will find a large variety available at up to 35% off. All gift cards are shipped USPS first class and arrive within 3-7 days. Electronic gift cards will be emailed within 24 hours of purchase.

Cardpool.com does not charge any taxes, fees, or shipping costs, so the advertised price of the card is the only price you pay.

I “sold” a $75 gift card for the store Anthropology to Cardpool on 3/7/19 (Thursday). According to their website, I should have been paid within the next business day (3/8/19). It has now been over 1 week and I have received NOTHING from Carpool. I have contacted them via email, AND I have called both phone numbers I could find for the company. I was prompted to leave a message and did so. All of this was days ago and still nothing. Cardpool seems to be a scam.
