In what can only be described as “What were you doing?” a young man drives right into the rear of a stopped car as it waits for the school bus to move. Wasn’t it big enough? Bright enough? Lights on? What did you need to see it? And then what were you doing while driving that you didn’t see it?
Powershiek County, Iowa – This is a rear-ender on Highway 6 in Iowa at 3:39 PM, right after school gets out. Who is described as a “juvenile male” is driving a Chevy Impala, comes up behind Kitty Sue Wagner from Ladora, and rear-ends her Ford Escape as she’s stopped waiting for a school bus. Ms. Wagner who is 63 is injured in the accident and taken to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines via the Mercy helicopter.
Causation is multi-faceted and would likely include the cell phone, if any, of the young juvenile male. The burning question of the days is, why didn’t you see a car stopped in front of you, the one behind a big yellow school bus with lights flashing? What was the distraction that was so important? There is a pretty good photograph taken by Duane MClun in the Des Moines Register article. From the images it appears the Wagner car was overturned by the impact.
