People worldwide are experimenting with new types of “designer drugs” that they create with various compounds and substances.  Synthetic marijuana, also known as spice, K2, or herbal incense, is very popular and alarmingly not illegal.  Since people feel they can get around drug laws by using these substances, they are widespread, but also causing severe health problems.  The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that these substances are connected to numerous incidents of kidney failure.  Many of the compounds that are used in the U.S. and that were involved in the kidney failures were imported from China.  When the substances are shipped in from other countries and the process of creating these “drugs” is unregulated, there are potentially serious and dangerous consequences.  Fortunately, Congress has stepped in and listed 26 synthetic drugs as controlled substances, including some of the compounds that caused kidney failure in several young adults.

Interesting post, in the next few days I'll post one on the chemical compounds. I'm wondering if melamine, the same chemical used in milk to game the protein testing system in China is of a similar quality as the one in these designer drugs that causes kidney failure?
