In light of recent reports of the dangers of hoverboards, discussed in a previous blog post, Amazon is putting a hold on sales of certain hoverboards until the companies prove their safety. Swagway, a major manufacturer of hoverboards, released a statement in support of Amazon's decision in order to determine which products are safe for consumer use and which should be pulled from shelves until further research is concluded. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is investigating 10 reports of fires that started on hoverboards. Major airlines have already banned them from flights as the lithium-ion batteries in the hoverboards have a high likelihood of bursting into flames from overheating. A few hoverboards remain available for purchase on Amazon, but the majority of hoverboards are still in the spotlight for potential dangers.
