Washington, Iowa 18-year-old crosses the center line in Johnson County

Posted on Dec 31, 2012

According to the Iowa State Patrol the 2011 Chevy Aveo came across the center line colliding with the 2002 Ford Ranger. From the report it appears the 18-year-old died.

NARRATIVE: UNIT #1 (ANGELA MARIE HARRISON )WAS EASTBOUND ON HWY 22 UNIT # 2 ( MELVIN HERBERT HINTZE ) WAS WESTBOUND ON HWY 22 FOR UNKNOWN REASONS UNIT # 1 (ANGELA MARIE HARRISON ) CROSSED THE CENTERLINE HITTING UNIT #2 ( MELVIN HERBERT HINTZE )HEAD ON BOTH VEHICLES CAME TO REST IN THE ROADWAY ON HWY 22 THIS ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE IOWA STATE PATROL BOTH OCCUPANTS OF UNIT # 2 ( MELVIN HERBERT HINTZE ) WERE TRANSPORTED BY GROUND AMBULANCE TO UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS IOWA CITY WITH NON LIFE THREATENING INJURIES.

Likely grounds of negligence will have to await toxicology results but in my opinion would include lookout, due care, speed and driving left of center. Mr. Hintze seems to be the non-fault driver.

A KGAN story has Mr. Hintze and his son, 35-year-old Melvin Hintze of Davenport in the hospital in Iowa City.

JOHNSON COUNTY (CBS 2/FOX 28) - The Iowa State Patrol says 18 year old Anagela Marie Harrison of Washington was killed early Sunday morning in a head on collision on Highway 22 at the Junction of Utah Avenue in Johnson County.

The investigation is still underway, but the initial report says Harrison crossed the center line for some reason about 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning, and struck an on-coming pick-up head-on.

59-year old Melvin Herbert Hintze of Grand Mound, who was driving the other vehicle and what appears to be his son, 35-year old Melvin Leonard Hintze of Davenport, were both taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. They are both expected to recover.

The accident is till under investigation.
