Posted on Nov 28, 2011

The semi-truck driver of the crash in September in which four women died has been charged for failing to obey a traffic control device.

Police said Snow's semi that was southbound on Jordan Creek Parkway failed to stop for the traffic signal. The car, driven by 86-year-old Arlene Laughlin was eastbound exiting the Des Moines Golf and Country Club. The car was struck by the semi on the driver’s side. The driver, Laughlin, and a passenger, Frances Sechler, 85, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers Marilyn Harper, 83, and Margaret Bannister, 95, were transported to area hospitals.

Both Bannister and Harper later died of their injuries.

All four women were longtime residents of the Lodge of Ashworth, a senior living community. One woman had lived there more than 20 years.
