Tire Drops Off Roadway Causing Loss of Control

Posted on Sep 20, 2012

This is a single car accident just south of 435th Street on CR S-56 in Lucas County, Iowa. The accident happened at 6:52 a.m. on September 4, 2012. Joyce Daugherty, 36 of Plano, Iowa was killed and taken to Pierschbacher Funeral Home. This is an interesting accident, I’ve heard of one other similar cause, but that as in the late 80’s or early 90’s. The officer’s narrative has the right front tire dropping off of the east shoulder causing the driver to take corrective action; she overcorrected and ended up rolling this 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo. The driver was the sole passenger died.

NARRATIVE: UNIT #1 WAS NORTHBOUND ON CR S-56 SOUTH OF 435TH STREET WHEN THE RIGHT SIDE TIRES OF UNIT #1 DROPPED OFF ON THE EAST SHOULDER. THE DRIVER OF UNIT #1 OVER-CORRECTED WHEN TRYING TO PULL BACK ONTO THE ROADWAY AND LOST CONTROL. AFTER LOSING CONTROL UNIT #1 CROSSED OVER TO THE WEST DITCH WHERE IT ROLLED AND CAME TO FINAL REST ON ITS TOP. THE DRIVER OF UNIT #1 WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. THERE WAS NO PASSENGERS IN UNIT #1 AND NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED.
