Subway CEO agrees there’s no excuse for workers being paid improperly

Posted on May 21, 2014

Subway CEO Fred DeLuca has responded to a CNNMoney investigative report finding that Subway is the fast food chain with the most wage and hour violations.  According to the report, Subway stores accumulated over 17,000 Fair Labor Standards Act violations from 2000 to 2013.  DeLuca addressed the findings in an interview with CNBC.  He stated that there is “no excuse” for Subway workers to not be paid fairly, but that the “vast majority” of Subway store owners have not broken the law.  Mr. DeLuca attributes the large number of violations to owners’ relative inexperience in business, and states that Subway has been working with the Department of Labor to educate its owners about compliance with the law.
