Even workable smoke detectors won't always save your life.
The news report is an interesting one. Firefighters arrived at a home fire at 4521 - 46th Street in Des Moines on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 to the sound of audible smoke detectors but the woman in the second level was dead. So what did happend? This story was complicated by the report of a call earlier in the week alleged to an attempted suicide preceded by what sounded like a family intervention to get the woman into an alcohol detox center.
Further analysis would have explore the victim's blood alcohol content as well as taking statements from the family members and the other residents in the building.
