Posted on Jan 22, 2014

The slick, icy roads caused by winter weather coming into Iowa on Saturday, January 18 led to several serious interstate crashes.  Eastern Iowa suffered the most severe weather, with ice and thick snow causing many traffic issues.  On Sunday morning, 30 cars were involved in a pileup crash on eastbound I-80 near Iowa City.  The crash began when a semi-truck jack-knifed, causing 30 cars to slam on their brakes and slide all over the interstate.  The Iowa State Patrol trooper who responded to the accident was also injured, when another sliding car hit his patrol car.  There were no fatalities reported.
