UPS worker killed was Danial Raber, 64 of Indianola. The driver of the UPS truck was Si Mohammed Aboudouhe, 29 of Orlando, Florida. Mr. Aboudouhe was a student driver. The instructor was a passenger in the truck at the time of the accident.
In another accident on Highway 29 in Mills County a 74-year-old man was killed when his pickup truck was broadsided on the driver's side while he attempted to execute a u-turn south of the construction zone. From reports he had turned off onto the shoulder before attempting the unsuccessful u-turn.
In a house fire in Council Bluffs, a 7-year-old boy was killed. Two adults and two children were home at the time of the blaze. Officials did are reported to not believe the blaze to be suspicious. The cause of the fire and whether smoke detectors were working will be of interest.
Conesville, Iowa is where this accident occurs. A Muscatine teen was hit by gun fire (pellets) as he was hunting for ducks. He is 17-year-old Nicholas Wilson. He was hit in the neck and lip.
A man was arrested in a Toledo motel robbery. Brass knuckles and money along with first-degree robbery are discussed. Wow this is interesting because it happened at the Designer Inn and Suites at 403 U.S. Highway 30 W. in Toledo where my client was robbed but the workers' compensation carrier didn't believe he was robbed; even though he had a gunshot wound in his thigh.
A bunch of wild turkeys caused a Nebraska motorcyclist to crash his bike in southwest Iowa. The county was Fremont and the biker is Kent Conway from Omaha, Nebraska. The sudden flock in front of him caused him to suddenly brake and have to lay down his bike. He was treated and released from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
A Cedar Rapids man likely got a worm in his eye after either turkey hunting or while visiting Mexico. I guess you shouldn't have drunk the tequila. Luckily doctors discovered the worm and with the patient calling in the Animal Planet film crew he should be able to get his 15 minutes of fame with them taping, get it taping... tap worm...a soon to be released show. See Iowa man has worm removed from eye, AP
The egg lawsuits are piling up like a nice soufflé. So far there are 1,600 cases of salmonella poisoning according to the CDC. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that the number of reported illnesses in the salmonella outbreak linked to the DeCoster egg farms in Iowa has reached 1,608. The CDC says that illnesses that occurred after Aug. 12 still may not be reported, but the agency says the outbreak appears to have peaked in July. Many more illnesses than the number reported likely occurred because most cases of food poisoning are never confirmed, health officials say."
In other action the referee-umpire team that mishandled the Iowa-Arizona game on Saturday night in Tucson caused brain damage to the fans and assaulted both teams with too many missed calls to count.
A freight train rider from San Francisco was injured when he fell off of freight train in eastern Iowa. I'm sure intoxication hasn't anything to do with any of this. It's more than likely the hills in southern Iowa that make the train unsteady and probably dumped them out the side of the rail car. Oh did I tell you another man also riding on the train was reportedly charged for public intoxication, theft and trespassing. The train is Dakota Minnesota & Easter Railroad train. The one guy is in the hospital and the other locked up in the slammer; he needs an attorney and a $1,000 bond; so if you're not doing anything and have a law license I can refer you.

Another hunting accident injured an 11-year-old boy's foot when the gun discharged when he was hunting with his grandfather southwest of Winterset, Iowa in Madison County. Interesting enough he was taken to Blank Children's Hospital perhaps as a sign that he should have had blanks in his muzzleloader.
A train hit a scooter and the driver was killed 30 miles south of Sioux City, Iowa. The driver surprisingly was a 92-year-old woman who'd just finished picking up groceries at Kirby's Corner Market and was heading back to the retirement home where she lived. Wow, this woman was described as fiercely independent and bought the scooter a month ago. Like my mother she went only to the grocery store, the doctor's office and to church. You've got to love what this lady stood for. Read the full story at Train this scooter, kills 92-year-old in the Des Moines Register by Adam Belz. Great story Adam. And by the way she is Ruth Swan of Whiting, Iowa who attended college in the 1930's. This woman was fiercely independent, now wasn't she?
A two-year-old girl was left in a car, knocked it into gear and then the car rolled down a hill and into a pond where she died. The accident happened in Lucas County and was investigated by the Lucas County Sheriff's Office.
What caused Stacey Hernandez to lose control of the car she was driving and to cross over into the other lane of traffic? She struck a semi-truck being driven by Duane Wagner, 53 from Osage. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 65 and Iowa Highway 18 south of Mason City.
