Plane crash killed pilot in Jefferson County

A small plane crashed at the Fairfield Municipal Airport on the morning of Sunday, June 22, killing its pilot. Pilot and owner Robert Lyle Bollinger of Fairfield was the owner and sole occupant of the plane, which crashed in a cornfield southeast of the airport shortly after take-off. The plane was a BD-4, amateur-built from a kit. An autopsy is scheduled of Mr. Bollinger, and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
