Man injured in Iowa fireworks accident

Television meteorologist Dave Rexroth, on vacation in Iowa City, was hospitalized after a fireworks accident on Friday, July 4th.  The Johnson County Ambulance Service and the Iowa City Fire Department responded at 10:07 P.M. to a report from 3605 Rohret Road after receiving reports about an individual who received burns in a fireworks accident.  Mr. Rexroth, who apparently lost his vision in his left eye, was hospitalized at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  He was scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday, July 9th, to begin the process of receiving a prosthetic eye.  Mr. Rexroth is chief meteorologist at WXYZ-TV in Detroit.
