Fire damaged two homes in Des Moines

Two Des Moines homes were damaged and three people injured in a fire that started around 1:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22nd.  Two adults and a child were asleep on the second floor of 1546 33rdwhen the fire began, and a passerby called 911 around 1:15 AM.  The fire, which apparently was concentrated near the front of the home, and scorched the house next door and a nearby vehicle.  The three people escaped out the back door of the house and suffered burns and smoke inhalation; they were taken to Methodist Hospital.  Officials estimate the fire caused about $30,000 in damages to that home.  The cause of the fire is unclear and an investigation is ongoing.
