There are three accidents leading to fatal injuries. The first was in Black Hawk County (Jordan Louis, 20 from West Des Moines) who while driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero eastbound on Highway 20 went off the hard surface slamming into a bridge pillar. He died from his injuries. Speed limit is 65 mph. Accident happened around 3:00 pm on January 22, 2013. There were no passengers shown on the accident report.
The second accident with fatal injuries happened in Adair County on January 29, 2013 at 10:30 pm on I-80 eastbound at the 96.65 mile marker. This is a two-car accident. The description follows. It’s an icy road case having to do with speed, adjusting speeds to the weather conditions, lookout and control. Michael Cole from Oswego, Illinois was driving a Volvo semi-truck (unit 1) while Heather Roberts, a 41-year-old female from Council Bluffs, Iowa was driving the second car. She was the fatality.
I-80 Adair County Trooper Description: Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound on I-80 at the 96.6 mm. The roadway was icy and slick. There was sleet and snow blowing. Vehicle 2 was westbound on I-80 at the 96.7mm. Vehicle 2 lost control and slid across the median into the eastbound lanes sideways and into the immediate path of vehicle 1. Vehicle 1 was unable to avoid the collision with vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 struck the passenger side of vehicle 2 at the 96.65mm of eastbound I-80. Vehicle 1 and vehicle 2 slid off of the roadway into the eastbound ditch. The driver of vehicle 2 sustained fatal injuries during the collision.
The third accident is from Page County and occurred at 290 Street in the 2600 block. Bryan Hull from Coin, Iowa was in a Chevy Blazer, lost control at the top of a hill, skidded sideways across the road, then left the hard surface, overturned and hit a utility pole owned by MidAmerican Energy. At 24, Mr. Hull died. I never heard of Coin, Iowa so I looked it up. It’s in Page County and has fewer than 200 people as residents. Just 79 households and 56 families and you get there by heading to the Iowa-Missouri border in the southwest portion of Iowa.
