Driver killed in Des Moines fiery Des Moines crash

A man was killed in a fiery one-vehicle crash on the south side of Des Moines on Monday, August 4th.  Charles Scott Bittick, 56, of Des Moines, was pulling onto Highway 5 from the Fleur Drive entrance ramp around 11:30 AM when the car he was driving hit a cement pillar of a bridge.  Mr. Bittick was ejected from the vehicle, which burst into flames.  He was later pronounced dead at the scene.  No one else was in the car, and no other vehicles were involved.  The accident remains under investigation.
