Driver killed after short chase in stolen car

A Des Moines man died when he crashed a stolen car after a short police chase around 9 AM, Monday, September 29th.  The crash occurred on County Line Road in Warren County.  Yanik Nicholas Audain, 29, was driving a silver Mercedes-Benz that had been recently reported stolen from a residence on Leisure Lane.  A deputy driving westbound, who was investigating the case, recognized the car and gave chase.  Less than a minute later, the stolen vehicle hit an embankment on a private driveway and flipped, coming to rest facing the opposite direction,  The car then caught fire.  Mr. Audain was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  He had been involved in a chase driving a stolen vehicle in 2006 as well.
