Car Accidents and the High Cost of Emotional Damages

News – The physical and emotional costs of brain injury rehabilitation are discussed regarding Zong Ze Chen, a 25 year old philosophy student at the University of Iowa. The original accident is described by Eastern Iowa News Now from June 13, 2011 by Erica Pennington of Source Media Group in Mehaffey Bridge Road Accident Sends Two to the Hospital on Sunday. At that time Chen’s condition was unknown but today it is and he’s recovering from traumatic brain injury suffered in the car-truck collision. The most recent article is in the Des Moines Register dated December 17, 2011, Chinese student recovers dramatically from crash. That news article describes Mr. Chen as a doctoral candidate in philosophy who is rehabilitating at On With Life in Ankeny, Iowa. From the photograph it’s easy to see a mother’s anguish when her child is suffering.

Persons mentioned in this story: Zongze “Eugene” Chen Lingling Chen, Tienan Chen, Gina Beecher is a physical therapist at On With Life, Dave Anders the therapy manager along with passengers - Fan Yang and Bosh Yang.

Iowa State Patrol Records indicate that Zong Ze Chen, 25, of Iowa City and two passengers in his vehicle were injured after Chen appears to have failed to yield to a truck driven by Marian Anderson, 48, of Coralville while turning south onto Mehaffey Bridge Road.

Chen was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics via Air Care. His condition is currently unknown.

Chen’s passengers, Fan Yang and Bosh Yang were transported to the hospital via ambulance and were treated and released. Anderson was also transported via ambulance. Her condition is unknown.
