I'd suggest you sign and file the transfer of title, sign a bill of sale or take the car back until he gets title transfer completed. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Will I be liable if my son in law gets into an accident if the title is not transferred yet? I gave a car to my son-in-law. The title is not transferred yet. Am I responsible for any accident he may have? Would a bill of sale solve any issues?
