The Iowa Board of Medicine is entrusted with protecting the public from those who would cause harm through the practice of medicine. While a bad result is not indicative of a bad medical practice, repeated complications may indicate a lack of skill, the wrong technique, a lack of education in an area of medicine or other problems including a drug or alcohol problem. To protect the public the Board must evaluate complaints and they do. Anyone can be the subject of a complaint brought to the attention of the Iowa Board of Medicine. There is a lot of misinformation on the Internet that leads patients to file a complaint.
