When businesses, like Kum & Go, have gas leaks it sometimes leads to insurance claims by neighbors whose homes surround the store. In this case today there is 3,000 gallons of gasoline missing from the Kum & Go in Centerville, Iowa. But is it in the ground? And why did the tank leak? That's a big assumption because so far no one has been able to show it did leak.

Where did the 3,000 gallons of gas go?

A business in Centerville, Iowa has a problem. It's one that could lead to a premise liability claim; an insurance claim by Kum & Go and the neighbors; and maybe even a criminal case if theft is involved. Premise liability can occur when a defect in your property causes someone to be injured. In the case of Kum & Go in Centerville somehow 3,000 gallons of gas is missing from a tank. Where did the gas go? Did the gas leak into the surrounding ground or was it stolen and taken away? Maybe it was never delivered; a paper error, maybe. Only time, an investigation by Kum & Go, some input from the delivery company, a few watchful neighbors and the DNR probing the ground will tell us the conclusions. In the meantime residents who live near the tank should take precautions to test their water and to be cautious to see if they smell gasoline coming from sewers or water wells. One thing is for sure; people in Centerville need to stop smoking.
