What Primary Liability limit does a semi-truck need to operate on the highways and roads of America? Tractor Trailers require a limit of $1,000,000 for operation; all other vehicles require coverage amounts according to the laws in their base state. See the Truckers Insurance Group’s FAQ’s and eHow’s discussion of Semi-Truck Insurance. The amount of coverage you need along with the types of loads you carry and the driver’s own record will dictate the premium.

What is the minimum insurance coverage I need for a tractor trailer in the USA?

Interesting question and one that I've not had asked of me before today. Semi trucks are covered under federal law because of the nature of their business being multi-state or in the stream of commerce.

If you or an interested person are in a collision and you would like the crash analyzed you'll need to contact Attorney Lombardi. This may or may not result in an attorney-client relationship and simply asking for a review does not in and of itself create such a relationship. If you ask and Mr. Lombardi thinks you have a case he will say so and provide an agreement for representation that then creates an attorney-client relationship. The bottom line is that Mr. Lombardi has to agree to take you on as a client; the first step of course is asking him. Steve, you mention that semi trucks are covered under federal law. As a practical matter, what differences would we likely see if they were covered under state law? Do you have an opinion on which is preferable?
