Water Ski Accident Leaves One Dead - Another Chewed Up In the Prop

A 9-year-old boy had been waterskiing and was killed when another boat struck him. Apparently the boy was in the water waiting to be picked up when he was struck and killed. AP reports the story and that the boy was a member of the Waterhawks Ski Team in the Waterloo area of Iowa. 
So what could the boat driver have done to see and to avoid striking a skier who is in the water waiting to be picked up? Anyone owning or driving a boat better have homeowner's insurance that does not preclude coverage for water sports. In a separate boating accident a 14-year-old girl was injured by a boat propeller at Finley's Landing boat ramp on the Mississippi River near Sherrill. This is in northeastern Iowa and was investigated by the Dubuque Sheriff's Department. The date of the news report is July 25, 2011. She was injured on a Saturday about 6:20 p.m. She was said to be tubing and the boat driver backed up into her causing deep leg lacerations. In my opinion this one appears to be a clear case of liability for the boat operator.
