The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning for Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity First B-50, a vitamin B supplement. The warning concerns two ingredients that are not listed on the package and should not be in a supplement. These two ingredients are anabolic steroids, methasterone and dimethazine. There are 29 reports of adverse reactions, including muscle cramping, fatigue, and muscle pain. The drug also negatively affects liver and thyroid function and cholesterol levels. The steroids can result in acute liver injury and may also lead to long-term consequences, such as an increased risk for heart attack or stroke, infertility in males and masculinization of women. The product is produced by the company Mira Health Products Ltd., which refused to recall the product despite the FDA warning. If the company fails to follow FDA protocol or to correct violations, it may face criminal prosecution.
