Tuna products manufactured by Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea were recently recalled by the companies over concerns about an error in the sterilization process, leading to possible bacterial contamination of the product. Last week, the company H-E-B joined this group and recalled it's Hill Country Fare brand of chunk tuna, affecting more than 10,000 cans. H-E-B states a third-party company that packaged the tuna had an equipment malfunction that may have caused the tuna to be undercooked and improperly sterilized to protect against pathogens or spoilage. The three recalls are all the result of routine inspections that revealed errors in the processing of the tuna. A vice president at Chicken of the Sea confirms that it has replaced the malfunctioning machinery part and that it is working properly.
