The Stop Sign: Failing to pay attention can be deadly

This accident occurs because, according to the report, one driver failed to stop at a stop sign and yield the right of way. Pretty much a no-brainer, but there may be extenuating circumstances not shown in the accident report. Here is what Trooper Neely wrote for his narrative:
VEH 1 WAS NORTHBOUND ON EDDYVILLE RD, VEH 2 WAS EASTBOUND ON HWY 63, VEH 1 FAILED TO YIELD RIGHT OF WAY FROM STOP SIGN OF EDDYVILLE RD, PULLING INTO THE PATH OF VEH 2, VEH WAS STRUCK IN LEFT DRIVERS DOOR & BOTH VEH CAME TO REST IN THE MEDIAN, ASSISTED AT SCENE BY WAPELLO CO SO, WAPELLO CO RURAL FIRE AND ORMIX
Now let us analyze it. According to the report the 87 year old driver, Winfred Douglas is driving northbound on Eddyville Road, comes to the intersection of Highway 63 and for some reason doesn’t yield to the oncoming traffic on Highway 63. He pulls right out into the path of Dennis Cockayne. Douglas gets hit right in the driver’s side door and is killed. In the other car a 14-year-old is injured along with the driver. A simple mistake can have very serious consequences.

A correction to your post of 3/19 ... Winfred Douglass was a man.
