South, a passenger dies in surgery after car collision

A Chariton woman died in a two-vehicle crash in Des Moines on Saturday near the intersection of East 15th and Lyon streets at Interstate Highway 235.

Erin South, 33, of Chariton was a passenger in a car being driven by Stephanie Glover, 25, also of Chariton. The car Glover was driving is reported to have entered the intersection against a red light, and then collided with a Chevrolet Suburban.

Police indicated to the Des Moines Register reporters that the Intrepid was traveling north on East 15th Street and the Suburban was traveling east on Lyon Street as if it were preparing to enter the eastbound on-ramp to I-235.

South was taken to Mercy Hospital where she apparently died during surgery.

Glover, another adult passenger and an infant were taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center. The other passenger, whose name was not released, suffered a broken arm and the infant suffered a broken jaw. Police said Glover, the driver, required surgery at Methodist and was listed in critical condition late Saturday. Des Moines Register

Maria Jimenez, 33, of Des Moines, the other driver was not seriously injured.

The driver is responsible for those injuries caused by their negligent acts. They can be legally responsible for both the passengers in the other car and their own car.
