Rollover Car Accidents in Iowa for February 17, 2011

It's been a busy couple of weeks and with the weather it will only get worse. The snow is melting during the day, but temperatures dropping nights, the road surface gets covered with a thin film of ice making conditions ripe for one crash after the next. People like talking about ‘black ice' which isn't really black at all. Ice is clear and the road is black and that's nothing unpredictable at this time of year. Every driver knows it's going to be there and should adjust for it.

So what is going on out there on Iowa's highways and roads? We've already covered the first accident near Scranton between two semi's trucks on Interstate 80 so I'm not going to do that again. In Driver Crashes into Sheriff's Cruiser a 21-year-old, Daniel Sanchez was blinded by snow being kicked up by a snow plow blade, he lost control, crossed over the center line and crashed into an Audubon County Sheriff's squad car. Dude you are so in trouble. This is so not going to be a good day.

In Collision on I-94 West of Jamestown you have three semi-trucks colliding in South Dakota in Stutsman County. It's not Iowa but close enough to matter. Weather occuring in South Dakota matters in Iowa.

Then with Two treated, released after accident on Avenue, we have two folks from Cedar Falls we have a one-car accident on Highway 18 with the driver losing control, entering the median area and rolling the van; a 1999 Ford Econoline van. If anyone could design a car that wouldn't roll over we could save a lot of lives. The passenger and driver are Kully Olson, 21 from Osage and one Russel Fredericksen, 27 from Cedar Falls. Both were taken to Mercy in Mason City.

It's sad to see how many lives are taken by auto motive accidents. I hope seeing statistics like these urges people to drive safer and to think of themselves, as well as others.
