Date-Rape AttorneyA young Boston attorney developed a patented type of plastic that changes color when exposed to the most common date-rape drugs. Mike Abramson created the product, and the company DrinkSavvy, after having his drink spiked at a city bar. The company produces straws, cups, and stirrers that change color when they come into contact with GHB, Ketamine, and Rohypnol. Young bar customers can purchase a straw and slip it into their cup before taking a drink to ensure that it has not been spiked. Estimates show that 1 in 4 college women will be raped, and the prevalence of undetectable date-rape drugs substantially increases this risk. DrinkSavvy’s new product is a breakthrough for young women fearful of going out to bars and is a big step toward increasing the need for awareness on this issue.
