Iowa unemployment claims have been submitted by telephone for many years, and the Iowa Workforce Development also added an online form submission option as well for the past several years. Now, the agency is adding in a mobile device option to submit claims, and will actually be ending its telephone claim submission option starting October 1, 2016. While this may pose problems for Iowans who do not have smartphones or computers to use for their claim submission, or the technical knowledge to use the new system, the Iowa Workforce Development has stated that claimants may still call the agency and receive help over the phone in submitting their claim. Nevertheless, the large majority of unemployed workers in Iowa are not overly knowledgeable in technology and may still have difficulties understanding and using the electronic form submission if this option becomes the only way to submit claims in the future.
