This next accident has some unanswered questions that only an investigation can pry open the answers to. We have an elderly man and woman passengers from Mechanicsville, Iowa in a 2008 Pontiac Torrent stopping on the railroad tracks at Franklin Avenue North of Highway 30 Railroad Crossing. He was 82 and she was 76, both died from the impact.

Did they know what they were doing or were they confused?
Was there something wrong with the car or did they stop in this location on purpose?
How long the car was stopped on the railroad tracks?
Were there any witnesses?
What did their home look like?
Were they desperate in any way? Ill? Economic issues of any significance? Despondent?
Were medications involved? Were they confused? Suffering from Alzheimer's disease?

Accident investigated by ISP Trooper Lt. Neil Wellner, #441 and assisted by Troopers 262 from Post 12 and #376 Cedar County. I have to wonder how you guys do this day in and day out?

VEHICLE # 1 WAS SOUTHBOUND ON FRANKLIN AVE AND FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON STOPPED ON THE RAILROAD GRADE CROSSING A UNION PACIFIC RAILWAY TRAIN EASTBOUND IMPACTED THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE # 1 THIS ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE IOWA STATE PATROL.

Look along the left column under The Verdict to see if the date of your accident is shown; if it is simply click on the linked title that should include a date. There are two for every Saturday.
