Today there are two fatality reports to discuss; one from Hamilton County and the other from Marshall.

In the Hamilton County case Francisco Huerta-Duran died and Jose Davis-Rivera from Webster City was injured. Both men were in the same car, a 2004 Nissan Xterra. The colliding vehicle was a C&N train. I reported on this last weekend so today I’ll simply provide the end report.

VEHICLE #1 FAILED TO STOP AND YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY TO A WEST BOUND TRAIN. VEHICLE #1 WAS PUSHED TO THE NORTH WEST DITCH TO IT'S FINAL RESTING PLACE. THE DRIVER OF VEHICLE #1 WAS AIRLIFTED BY MERCY -ONE TO MERCY HOSPITAL IN DES MOINES. THE PASSENGER WHO WAS EJECTED WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD BY THE HAMILTON COUNTY MEDICAL EXAMINER. THE TRAIN ENGINEER AND CONDUCTOR WERE NOT INJURED. CHARGES ARE PENDING COMPLETION OF TI REPORT.

This next one out of Marshalltown is reported as a failure to yield case resulting in a head-on collision. This I also reported on last weekend so today I’ll simply report the persons’ involved and give the trooper’s narrative. Persons injured or killed: Don and Kate Pinney and Marie Coltrain. From what I’ve read the driver of the GMC just didn’t stop and hit Coltrain head-on. I doubt she’ll be assigned any fault. She’s just 20-years-old.
