Every Saturday this law firm posts the current Iowa State Patrol fatality and injury report list so our out-of-state clients and potential clients have access to the latest word from the Iowa State Patrol. Look along the left column under The Verdict to see if the date of your accident is shown; if it is simply click on the linked title that should include a date. There are two for every Saturday. One is for fatality reports and the other for injury crash reports. If you or an interested person are in a collision and you would like the crash analyzed you'll need to contact Attorney Lombardi. Iowa State Patrol Fatality Reports for Saturday, August 27, 2011.

It's been several weeks since I've covered personal injury accidents resulting in the death of the driver or passenger. Today there are just two. That's good. The first is from Decatur County on August 14, 2011 and the other on August 13 in Cass County.

The one from Decatur is a single vehicle accident described in such a way that the driver is being blamed for careless and reckless driving that caused his own death when the car (Chevy Astro) went out of control and rolled. It struck a utility pole in the town of Leon. Accident occurred at 12:20 a.m. on SW 12^th Street and S. Main Street in Leon. Does appear there was one passenger in the car - Cameo Lynn Barnes, a 26-year-old female who was taken to Decatur County Hospital by ambulance. The report seems to indicate she was ejected or thrown from the vehicle through a side window. She'll have a claim against the driver, so long as she wasn't drinking with him or encouraging-buying him drinks, assuming there was any drinking involved. In Iowa you can't collect damages if you are "complicit" in the drinking. I say this only for educational purposes because the police report makes no conclusions as to driving while under the influence. Box 6 shows "Under the influence of alcohol/drugs/medications." Like Dolly is famous for saying, "Nothing good happens after midnight." You're right again Mom. Over to Cass County it's a motorcycle accident on I-80 at the 70 off-ramp. I'll copy and paste the trooper's narrative below. A 22-year-old driver, Steven Henaman, was fatally injured after for unknown reasons the bike went out of control and crashed. So here is what the relatives need to do - get the bike and have it inspected to see if there was something wrong with it. Save all the paperwork showing purchase date, repairs, modifications, etc. That way you may find the answer in the bike's maintenance or work. If faulty work was done, then the question is by who and what they did wrong. Maybe it's got nothing to do with his driving and everything to do with faulty motorcycle repair work. VEHICLE 1 WAS WESTBOUND ON THE I-80 EXIT 70 OFF RAMP. VEHICLE 1 LOST CONTROL FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON. VEHICLE 1 RAN OFF THE ROADWAY TO THE LEFT. VEHICLE 1 OVERTURNED. THE RIDER WAS THROWN OFF OF VEHICLE 1. VEHICLE 1 CAME TO REST ON TOP OF THE RIDER CAUSING FATAL INJURIES.
