Fall from a grain bin causes Forest City Death

A 46-year-old man, Julian Santos Martinez of Buffalo Center fell 30 feet down an enclosed silo chute and was killed. Fall protection gear is important for construction, iron and farm workers. For most jobs fall-protection gear is required.

Tractor Driver Killed in Collision with Semi

Steven Welsh, 68, of DeWitt, was killed when his tractor collided with a semi at around 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, September 8th. The incident occurred near Welton on U.S. Highway 61. DeWitt was traveling north on his tractor when he was struck from behind by a semi driven by 62-year-old Charles Culp. DeWitt was pushed into the median as the semi careened into a nearby ditch. Both drivers were transported to Genesis Medical Center where Welsh died from his injuries.

One Dead in Polk County Motorcycle Crash

Vyacheslav Zinchenko, 20, of Osceola, was driving his motorcycle southbound on Highway 65 in Polk County around 7:27 a.m., Saturday, September 10th. While traversing a bridge, Zinchenko lost control of his 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and struck a guard rail. He was ejected from his bike and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was declared dead at the scene of the incident.

Dubuque Woman Dies in Head-On Collision

Kristen E. Vogt, 26, of Dubuque, was killed in a head-on collision that occurred around 1:27 p.m. on Sunday, September 11th in Jackson County. Vogt was driving east on County Road E. 17th/150th Street near U.S. Route 61. As she negotiated a curve, she was struck head-on by a pickup truck driven by Ricky A. Burnett, 34. Vogt died from her injuries and Burnett was airlifted to University Hospitals with serious injuries. An investigation is ongoing in this incident.

Teen girl shot to death in Cedar Rapids, SEPTEMBER 27, 2016 BY PAT CURTIS, ““Unfortunately, we’ve got two juveniles and a young adult who intentionally shot a 13-year-old female,” Buelow said. “Obviously, we’re very disturbed by this.” Witnesses provided responding officers with descriptions of the suspects, who were all arrested within 10 minutes of the initial call, according to Buelow.” The name was later released and can be found in this news article.
