Iowa Marshall County Accident Lawyer Blog Post

In the next Marshall County car accident as a lawyer I would describe it this way: It's a failure to yield case. From this preliminary report it's impossible to really tell what occurred; you have 2003 GMC Sonoma and a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse involved in what is described as a head-on collision in Marshall County on Highway 330 southbound and 160^th Street at 11:30 on May 28, 2011 resulting in the death of a 92-year-old woman Kate Pinney. Another Pinney was driving the GMC and a 20-year-old, Kristina Coltrain from Albion had the unfortunate role of driving the Eclipse. She was taken by ground ambulance to the hospital in Marshalltown. According to the report Pinney is driving "vehicle 1" and Coltrain "vehicle 2". Here is how the officer describes the collision:

VEHICLE 1 EASTBOUND ON 160TH STREET THE DRIVER FAILED TO YIELD AT STOP SIGN AND HIT VEHICLE 2 HEAD ON.

Again, the report isn't a model of clarity but from what I can tell the young lady driving the Eclipse isn't the at-fault driver.

As many of these reports as I read I'm constantly wondering what distractions cause people to go through something as simple and obvious as a posted stop sign. Cell phones, iPads, iPods, radio, eating, drinking, radio, GPS, you name it and it's a distraction in the car.
