When it comes to Mark Becker the public's insanity is starting to bug me. The public hypocracy needs to be medicated. You will recall that Mark Becker was not insane, according to the jury trying him for murdering his former coach. According to the jury decision he was perfectly sane at the time. Or was he?
The Des Moines Register carried an article "Becker ‘Fairly Stable' in Prison". The gist of the article is that Mark Becker, who supposedly is sane, is being treated by prison mental health professionals for his psychiatric condition and the article quotes prison doctors as saying Mark's psychiatric condition is "fairly stable". This young man is 24-years-old, clearly insane and I dare anyone to prove otherwise. Well I guess they already sort of did that didn't they?
Of course the criminal jury found him not insane enough to allow his former coach's death to go unpunished. So in the end an insane man, committing an insane act, was found guilty and not "not guilty" by reason of insanity. This is twisted logic to the nth degree by people looking to punish, no matter what the evidence showed.
"Think about it, if Mark Becker isn't insane why would you now have to treat him as though he is."
I have to wonder whether some of the jurors are kept awake at night feeling regret for the decision that was made. If it were me I could never have convicted this man, but then again I'm not fearful of mental health issues. I think most people are afraid. What is insane was the gutless jury and the decision they made. They should all be ashamed. People can talk all they want about what the coach would have wanted, but clearly he would not have wanted this result. What's going on is dispicable.
And I could see this coming before the jury even reached it's decision. Think about it, if Mark Becker isn't insane why would you now have to treat him as though he is. No sooner than the sentencing is imposed the discussion had to turn to how to warehouse and treat this insane man.
Mark Becker remains warehoused in the Iowa Medical and Classification Center where his schizophrenia is being treated. Poor Mark Becker.
