Today we'll cover three of four personal injury accidents to see the causes and results.
In the first accident the driver avoided serious injury after his car rolled in the ditch. The front tire, likely the right front, went off the pavement and likely pulled the car towards the ditch. Once in the ditch the car rolled and then caught on fire.
In the second accident the driver, Daniel Hess didn't see an oncoming van, pulled out in front of it and they collided. The van driver, Stacey Welling was injured, but the report fails to indicate if she went to the hospital. These types of collision make me wonder about what the driver was looking at before pulling out. This one happened at 3:15 pm on November 16, 2010 at Holy Cross Road and New Vienna road in Dubuque County.
Our third collision today is on eastbound I-80 in Cass County on November 15, 2010. It's a one vehicle collision and involves a semi truck that goes into the ditch, rolls on its side and then slides till it stops. It sounds like another distracted driver situation although I'm just guessing. Maybe he had a problem in the cab that took his attention from the road. No matter, because he still has a workers' compensation claim if injured. What most people don't know is that negligence doesn't matter in a workers' compensation claim. This driver, Robert W. Chesser is from Wyandotte, Oklahoma and because he was injured in Iowa he'd be eligible for Iowa workers' compensation benefits under Chapter 85. Iowa benefits are usually more than other states, but Oklahoma I'm not familiar with so I can't say for sure.
That's it for today. Come back tomorrow and I'll cover three more accidents in Iowa.
