I-35/I-80 and Iowa Car-Truck Accidents Evaluated

There is a reported two-semi truck head-on collision on Interstate 80 near Colfax, Iowa. The photograph on the Newton Daily News site does a really good job of getting a higher perspective than we normally see at ground level. Wow! It's pretty easy to get depressed about all the accidental deaths and economic turmoil swirling around out there. There was fuel spilled and some John Deer equipment won't make it to its destination; that's for certain. It doesn't look like anyone died.

This next accident is from Boone County, Kentucky and involves a semi-truck and a train. Not a good combination. Luckily the youngish driver was not injured. He had been sitting there straddling the train tracks when the train came along. The firefighter was originally from Iowa; he is Ian Bodson, 29.

Next we have a semi-truck falling down what is described as an 80-foot into the south fork of Coeur d'Alene River in Wallace, Idaho. Here is how the crash sequence was described by the reporter. "The truck driver swerved to avoid a crash causing his trailer to fishtail.  The semi-truck driver crossed the road and collided with the center median barriers, went back across the road and struck the guardrail.  Police say the trailer vaulted over the guardrail tearing the 5th wheel assembly off the tractor.  The trailer fell 80 feet into the south fork of the Coeur d'Alene River."
