This first accident is one I’ve seen previously; in fact we are evaluating another. Drivers on the Interstate 80 have an obligation to see what is clearly in front of them. This accident was at 3:27 so it was dark but still you have lights and the description by the officer has the Rolando Calderon-Yescas from North Chicago off the roadway and onto the shoulder when he and the F-350 were struck. An F-350 is not a small truck; I know my last truck was an F-350. Some knucklehead kid drove across the center line and as I tried to get away from him he t-boned the truck destroying it. Cell phone? Who knows the cop wasn’t interested in keeping the kid’s phone to check.

And why did the guy in the semi take off and not stop? What’s that about? Let’s hope he’s got a conscience and comes forward.

The semi was heading west so anyone who may have seen a damaged semi, probably without a front passenger side headlight should contact the Iowa State Patrol. Johnson County, Iowa on August 2, 2012.
