High Speed Car can excuse a failure to yield

A crash occurred in Story County on May 7, 2011 - In this case we have a Pontiac travelling east on Lincoln Way in Ames, Iowa. A driver coming in the opposite direction attempts a left turn and is broadsided by the car traveling at a high rate of speed. Normally the car turning left would be sited, but not if the oncoming car is exceeding the speed limit and certainly not at a high rate of speed. That's so because one assumes all other drivers are obeying the rules of the road; speed being one of them. PONTIAC FIREBIRD WAS EASTBOUND LINCOLN WAY HIGH RATE SPEED VEHICLE 2 NORTHBOUND DUFF MAKING LEFT TURN TO WESTBOUND STRUCK BY 1 ACCIDENT STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION CHARGES PENDING BY AMES PD... [People involved include: Kaleb James Hoverstein 18; William David Schroeder, 39; Tori Page, 14; Bryce Nelson, 16. All parties were injured and one died. See the link for further information.
