Germany recalled 8.5 million vehicles in Europe that are involved in the Volkswagen diesel engine emissions scandal. These recalled vehicles all have software installed that cheats emissions tests. Germany's move will automatically affect all cars in the 28-nation European Union under EU rules. Austrian authorities state that 363,000 VW vehicles in Austria are affected. In Germany, 2.4 million vehicles are affected. VW will be contacting customers, but customers can also enter their vehicle's serial number online to determine whether it is recalled. The alteration to the software will be at no expense to the customer. Some of the vehicles will need more than just a software swich as those with small diesel engines will need physical adjustments as well. More investigations are revealing additional 2016 models that will need modifications. VW says that 11 million cars with the software were sold worldwide.
