A pickup truck being driven by a 31-year-old man was killed when allegedly the driver changed lanes striking a semi-truck being driven by Joseph Jadach from St. Petersburg, Florida. After making contact with the semi-trailer the pickup truck driver lost control, went sideways hitting the guardrail, then going airborne and likely rolling tossing both passengers out and killing the non-driver passenger. The location of the accident was mile marker 137 on I-80 westbound in Polk County, Iowa. The driver of the pickup and its passenger were both from Waukee, Iowa. The fatally injured passenger was just 44-years of age. Susannah Dryer Thompson

According to the Iowa State Patrol: UNIT 1 WAS WESTBOUND ON I-80 NEAR THE 137 MILE MARKER WHEN THE DRIVER CHANGED LANES INTO A SEMI AND STRUCK THE TRAILER AFTER STRICKING THE TRAILER, UNIT 1 SLID INTO THE MEDIAN GUARDRAIL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO AIRBORNE UNIT 1 CAME TO REST IN THE MEDIAN BETWEEN THE GUARDRAILS DURING THE COURSE OF THE CRASH BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE EJECTED THE PASSENGER WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO BROADLAWNS.
