When I was much younger prowling the shores of a small New England town it was often said, "The quiet before the storm." Knowing the weather we've just experienced along with the number of fatality reports and with only six personal injury reports on the Iowa State Patrol's website I sense this is the quiet before the storm. In the harbor town of Bristol, on Bristol Harbor the air would be still, gulls and terns mysteriously silent as dark clouds gathered in the horizon. The water kept up its rhythmic roll onto the beach heads and the barnacle encrusted rocks that lined most of this New England shoreline. The water cared not about what was happening above other than what tide was rolling in our out. Like the water and waves the roadway hasn't a mind to care what ice, water or snow is falling onto its surface. The road has no heart, no soul or conscience. It will aid the ice to form a slippery sheet of black ice without any warning to drivers. You see, the road doesn't have to warn you because the clouds clearly do. And just as we knew to put away the Boston Whalers, the skiffs and the row boats you too need to batten down the hatches when a winter storm approaches. That is all the warning you will get. No matter how many news stories are written that blame the weather it's the driver who is always in control of the car or truck and can simply slow down or pull off the road. The weather isn't negligent and with few exceptions can it ever be blamed. You the driver and you alone are the one in control. The weather can't be negligent or at fault, but the drivers normally are.
So like the captain of a ship steer clear of blaming the Old Man Winter or his mother, Mother Nature.

If you or an interested person are in a collision and you would like the crash analyzed you'll need to contact Attorney Lombardi. This may or may not result in an attorney-client relationship and simply asking for a review does not in and of itself create such a relationship. If you ask and Mr. Lombardi thinks you have a case he will say so and provide an agreement for representation that then creates an attorney-client relationship. The bottom line is that Mr. Lombardi has to agree to take you on as a client; the first step of course is asking him. You've got two ways: telephone 515-222-1110 or email sent to sdlombardi@aol.com.
