There is a new
story about the young adults who died in the car accident that I've previously blogged about. It's difficult for lawyers to read this stuff because we've seen so much of it. Take this story and multiply it times 30 years of practicing personal injury and you have difficulty sleeping some nights. In this personal injury accident Kristin Hanrahan and Jed Rogis were killed near Miles after the car in which they were riding as passengers went off the road, into the ditch, struck a tree and rolled. They didn't make it, probably in part due to being ejected. Both Hanrahan and Rogis were athletes at Northeast. Here is a quote from Tom Geyer's article in the Courier Lee News Service. I encourage you to read it.
Hanrahan and Rogis were athletes during their time at Northeast. Hanrahan, who graduated this past spring, was on the track team, while Rogis played basketball. He was a 2010 graduate of the school in Goose Lake. "She was an excellent athlete and an excellent worker," Pat Healy, the school's track coach, said of Hanrahan. "She put the team ahead of herself," he said. "As an example of that, she became one of the better long jumpers when we needed a long jumper. She sacrificed her sprints to do the long jump and became a 15-foot long jumper." Hanrahan had plans to join the Navy, he added. Northeast boys basketball coach Travis Eversmeyer said Rogis "was a great kid with a smile on his face all the time. "He was a good leader at point guard and he came to work every day," Eversmeyer added. "He worked to improve himself and his teammates. He put his team first, and it showed in his stats. He could have had 20 points a game because he was that good. He could play defense, he could rebound, he could shoot. He was just a good overall kid."The question remains of whether or not alcohol was involved and if so will there be charges for vehicular homicide? Slow it down, take your time, put away the distractions, wear your seatbelts and never drink to excess and drive a car or truck.
