The answer isn’t as simple as one may hope it would, sometimes yes and sometimes no. It depends on several factors one of which is whether or not you were covered under workers’ compensation at the time of the injury and did the accident occur within the scope of your employment. Also if not covered under workers’ compensation then do you have a short term disability policy that covers you?
A driver lost control of her vehicle on the Cedar River bridge west-bound on Highway 30, entered a ditch, and hit a tree on Saturday morning, authorities say. Emergency crews responded just before 7 a.m. on Saturday. The driver, Hannah Hall, 17, of Cedar Rapids, was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for non-life threatening injuries, according to a report from the Linn County Sheriff’s office.
There is so much to report on that I can already sense that it’s going to be a very busy week. The first news item is happening in Sioux City, Iowa. City officials spent $2 million installing 26 traffic cameras at the busiest intersections around the city. This should make the lawyers and judges happy because when it comes to car accidents a picture is worth a thousand words. Sweet!
To put this case in perspective I need ask only one question. Can road conditions, including snow and ice, really cause a car accident? A few years ago I blogged about Iowa news reports blaming Old Man Winter for causing accidents; which by-the-way on behalf of my client we emphatically deny! Back then I thought we’d won this case, but apparently not because once again my client is being libeled. Today I’m here once again to defend OMW.
What Primary Liability limit does a semi-truck need to operate on the highways and roads of America? Tractor Trailers require a limit of $1,000,000 for operation; all other vehicles require coverage amounts according to the laws in their base state. See the Truckers Insurance Group’s FAQ’s and eHow’s discussion of Semi-Truck Insurance. The amount of coverage you need along with the types of loads you carry and the driver’s own record will dictate the premium.
