Ames Elevators Involved in Death Is Back in the News
The Register reported the apartment building where an Illinois man died earlier this year had 13 calls to the Ames Fire Department in the past 5 years. The article points out the calls were to free people trapped inside one of the building’s two elevators. Interesting enough Ames has 138 elevators that required 40 calls to the fire department to rescue people trapped inside.
There is no indication of the dates of each call or the reasons given for people to be trapped inside. There may or may not be any relationship between the reason the doors caved in and the Illinois gentleman fell to his death and any of the other 13 calls. It’s not very likely the owner of the building or the company representatives who manage the building will respond to news inquiries. Experts would need to be hired to evaluate the maintenance records and the problem that was later identified, if any.
