Today I thought we’d do a blawg or blog roundup for Iowa. A few of these blawgs aren’t in Iowa but they concern Iowa law. If you’re from Iowa this is probably interesting, if you’re not; then not so much.
Chicago, Illinois – The law firm of Capron & Avgerinos revamped their website and added a blawg, not much there yet. They uploaded video to YouTube talking about who they are and what work their firm handles. The Blawg is titled On Injury Law. Nick Avgerinos and I attended Drake Law School together. He handles predominantly workers compensation cases throughout Illinois and eastern Iowa.
Des Moines, Iowa – George Davidson, who is also up for appointment consideration to the Iowa Court of Appeals, calls his blawg George Davidson Iowa Law. He covers court cases mostly and does an excellent job of writing for an audience of I’m going to assume attorneys, judges and legal scholars; which is probably why he doesn’t link to my blawg, The Verdict. A bit too conservative for me he would do well on the Court. Assuming he gets the nod for the bigger dance it will be interesting to see if he gives up or is told to give up blogging. Let’s hope not.
Des Moines, Iowa – Brent Trout writes BlawgIt, a blawg concentrating on patent, trademark, copyright and Internet law issues. His style is somewhat off centered, humorous and a bit quirky. The subjects he covers range from the mundane to the extremely popular and interesting. As an example he covers the Classic Nigerian Email Scam along with file-sharing music arrangements between Internet users and the top ten African American inventors. The legal blogroll had only one listing to Business and Corporate Law but that ling wasn’t working when I tried it. His Blog Roll is mostly to business blogs and included or next blog,
Des Moines, Iowa – Rush On Business is published by Rush Nigut, a lawyer concentrating on “Information On Iowa Business Employment And Franchise Law.” His topics include books, business law, business litigation, buying and selling a business, “Charlie Longbrief”, current affairs, electronic discovery, employment law, franchise law, incorporation and limited liability company formation, Microsoft Iowa litigation, how to start a business and podcasts. This isn’t an area of the law I’m familiar with so I was pulled towards his section on podcasts. There is a reference to blogtalkradio so I visited it by simply engaging the link. Rush is doing something I have been working on and he does interviews with business people. The people I would interview would be those having to do with personal injury, medical care and treatment after an accident. He’s done a good job of developing a top notch blawg.
The Verdict– West Des Moines, Iowa – This is the blawg on my own law firm website. It doesn’t work entirely like I want it to but the SEO folks tell me not to worry people don’t find your blog like they would a chapter in a book. Searches direct them to your blog content when they need it. The potential client doesn’t need to read the entire book to know they’ve found the information relevant to the issue in their life. Well maybe that’s true but its not entirely pleasing.
Iowa Banking Law Blog – Written by the law firm of Dickinson, Mackaman, Tyler & Hagen this blog covers … ta-daaaaaaaaaa – banking law issues! It has links to other banking law websites and is esoterically specific with the subjects covered. It also links to “Ward on Iowa Liability company law” blog. And … as that implies it’s about limited liability companies in Iowa. It’s written by Marc Ward, a member of the Dickinson firm. It provides guides and forms along with samples of things like operating agreements and an employer’s basic business guide. It doesn’t really link to a great number of blogs.
BlawgSearch – This site provides a list of blog sites and even ranks them by popularity. On today’s ranking I’m proud to say the Des Moines Personal Injury Lawyer blawg, my own is ranked 43 out of over 3,000 blawgs. The blawg directory lists 5,267 Blawgs in 72 subcategories. Iowa has 10 blawgs registered. Des Moines InjuryBoard is ranked first in Iowa but 100 this week, Rush on Business is 729, Becker’s Iowa Environmental Law 1,065, Quad Cities Injury Lawyers 1,281, Iowa Law Blog 1,563, Council Bluffs Personal Injury 1,710, Iowa Banking Law Blog 2,015, Iowa Champion 2,334, Iowa Family Law 2,974 and Wealth & Estate Planning 3,265.
Becker’s Iowa Environmental Law – Is the blawg for the law firm of Belin and McCormick in Des Moines. As the title implies it’s all about environmental issues. This blawg concerns itself with taking on such issues as CERCLA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, going green, environmental politics, storm water regulations, Renewable energy and the SuperFund. It links up mostly to business blogs.
Quad Cities Injury Lawyers – Written by the subject matter concerns personal injury, workers’ compensation and medical malpractice cases, issues and injuries. This firm isn’t in Iowa, they are in Rock Island, Illinois. The firm appears to be Michael J. Warner Associates in Rock Island.
Council Bluffs Personal Injury – This is a Nebraska firm with John Inserra and Craig Kelley from Omaha. Like me they also write for the InjuryBoard.
Iowa Champion – This is a criminal defense law blawg by the law firm of Feuerhelm & Kenville, P.C. Both Jake and Charlie are criminal defense lawyers in Des Moines, Iowa. Their practice areas define their post subjects and that includes OWI, DUI, drug cases, domestic abuse, theft, forgery, fraud, burglary, white collar crimes, sex crimes murder and probation violations.
Iowa Family Law – The IFL is a blawg by Babich, Goldman, Cashatt & Renzo, PC. The ranking it has received is understandable since the last post was April 28, 2009. These guys have gone to sleep at the switch and this train is going no where. Outdated information can be dangerous and create liability. They might think about taking it down.
Wealth & Estate Planning -. Mathew Gardner a shareholder with Sullivan & Ward writes this blawg from West Des Moines, Iowa. It’s about probate. It looks like he’s posting once or twice per month about estate planning and probate in Iowa.
So that's pretty much it for Iowa blawgs.
